The US military commander in Afghanistan General Stanley McChrystal had asked NATO leaders additional 85.000 soldiers in Afghanistan, the International Herald Tribune newspaper reported Saturday.

The relevant official request is under consideration by NATO now.

However the newspaper doubts that the General will receive this number of additional troops. According to newspaper, it is most likely that the additional contingent will amount to not more than 40 000 servicemen and the US will have to account for the biggest part of these troops.
