Khirbet Susiya has become a symbol of how Israel deprives Palestinians of their land and resources in the West Bank, damaging prospects that they will ever have a viable independent state. The majority of the West Bank, known as Area C, including the village of Khirbet Susiya, remains under full Israeli military control notwithstanding that this is a vital part of a future independent, Palestinian, political entity.
The EU has demanded that Israel abandon plans for the ‘forced transfer of population and demolition of Palestinian housing and infrastructure’ in Khirbet Susiya in the South Hebron Hills and the United States has warned that such threatened evictions and demolitions would be ‘harmful and provocative’.
This latest demolition plan is apparently a rehearsal by Mr Netanyahu for the full-scale, ethnic cleansing of all Palestinian Arabs from their traditional homelands west of the Jordan River in a Likud Zionist bid for a ‘Greater Israel’.Both the EU and the US must ensure that plan never comes to fruition.
