Brussels — The European cargo (Greek, Swedish) starts by Monday afternoon (24 / 5), to move from the port of Athens towards Cyprus to join the fleet of “freedom” going to the Gaza Strip, while another four ships from Athens and Crete will follow this by setting to sail, subsidiary of the “European campaign to End the Siege on Gaza “and the ” Free Gaza” movement, will be also joining the fleet, which expected to be moving to Gaza on Thursday.

Rami Abdo, member of the “European campaign to End the Siege on Gaza”, one of the directions that founded the fleet of freedom’s coalition , said that the Greek-Swedish ship will be carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza estimated of more than 2.5 million dollars, funded by the European campaign, including prefabricated buildings, medicines, water desalination plants and building materials.

Abdo Explained in a statement today, that the launch of the cargo ship from Athens is accompanied by extensive media coverage, especially since there are more than thirty-six journalists working in twenty-one news agency and global media directions will be on board of a ship of the European campaign to broadcast the fleet’s firsthand news about its launching, movement and sailing live on various channels around the world, meanwhile the ship will carry Space transmitters devices, for the first time.

Abdo added that according to what is planned, the tentative date for the fleet’s arrival to the Gaza Strip is on the evening of Friday (28 / 5), noting that the establishers of the fleet of “freedom” took into account all the scenarios projected by the Israeli side against the fleet, at the same time they confirmed their insistence on accessing Gaza to deliver the aid and humanitarian needs to their trapped owners.

Three big Turkish ships launched last Saturday implementing the first stage in the movement of the fleet of freedom, which includes nine ships, including three large cargo ships carrying more than thousands of tons of aid.

The fleet of “Freedom” consists of nine ships which are: A cargo ship funded by Kuwait raising the flag of Turkey and Kuwait, A cargo ship funded by Algeria, and a cargo ship funded by Europe from Sweden and Greece, and 6 vessels to transport passengers; one of the boats is named “boat 8000” taking after the number of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.

The fleet settled with carrying 750 participants from more than 60 countries, although it had received dozens of requests for participation. Meanwhile 44 governmental, parliamentary, political, European, and Arab officials will be among the participants in the fleet, including ten Algerian MEPs.

The ships of fleet also carry more than 10 thousand tons of medical supplies, building materials, timber, 100 prefab houses to shelter tens of thousands of people who lost their homes during the Israeli war on Gaza in early 2009, it also carries 500 electric vehicles for the handicapped, especially since the recent war that left nearly 600 disabled people in Gaza.
