A man named Splitting The Sky (STS), also known as John Boncore, faces possibly two years in jail and possibly a 5 thousand dollar fine for attempting a peaceful citizens arrest of George Bush (Junior Bush who was U.S. president from 2001-2009) in Calgary, Canada, on March 17th 2009. STS’s sentencing date is June 7th, 2010 in Calgary. Calgary is a right wing city with an oil based economy. Therefore, there are not a lot of activists in Calgary. Hopefully there will be rallies supporting STS in places other than Calgary and the media of those places must be informed. Through-out the world, people know local organizations, local activists, places to protest, and local news organizations, so for people who read this, please contact activists and activist groups in your local area to rally to support STS. STS’s sentencing date is June 7th, so it is probably best to rally June 5th and/or June 6th. Calgary, where STS has to go to court, is in Canada. The U.S. influences Canada a lot, especially Calgary, so hopefully there will be protests in the U.S. If you know activist organizations outside Canada and the U.S., please send this email to them.
Some background information and a petition email address:
According to Canadian and International law, Bush should be arrested for war crimes. STS was held in jail overnight for peacefully attempting to arrest Bush on March 17th, 2009. In the jail he was beaten by the Calgary police and thus he got a concussion, painful soft tissue injuries, and broken glasses. Because of racism in Canada, First Nations people are more likely to be beaten by the police. Therefore, there is concern that if STS is sentenced to jail for trying to arrest Bush, STS may be mistreated, beaten, or killed by the Calgary Police. On March 17th 2009 at the anti-Bush demonstration, after walking by the police a few times, STS said to them that if they had not yet gone into the building to arrest Bush the next time he walked by them, than he was going to make a citizens arrest. In videos on the internet, STS raises his hands above his head and yells “I am not touching anyone!” and tries to run past the police into the building where Bush was. STS had papers in his pocket saying why Bush should be arrested and he wanted to set the papers in front of Bush. Next, STS was arrested and held overnight in a Calgary jail where he was beaten by the Calgary police.
STS faces a charge of obstruction of justice. STS is a hero who was trying to carry out justice by attempting a peaceful citizens arrest of Bush. If people remain silent about the mistreatment of STS for trying to carry out the law and arrest Bush, then leaders will be more likely to think that they will not be punished for war crimes. On June 7th 2010, judge Manfred Delong may charge STS. As soon as you can, please sign the petition to try and prevent STS from being charged with a crime for his peaceful attempted citizens arrest of war criminal Bush.
