TOKYO, June 30 (Itar-Tass) – Russian government has warned Tokyo to be cautious in terms of engaging in joint activity with other countries if such actions may have anti-Russian subcurrents, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov said Saturday.

He said it in a comment on the recently declared Tokyo’s foreign policy course aimed at setting up the so-called ‘arch of freedom and flourishing’.

Japanese newspapers say that according to designers of the project, the arch may embrace former republics of the USSR and former socialist countries, whose activity often has anti-Russian overtones.

Moscow has warned the Japanese decision-makers that some associations of countries, which Tokyo tries to take coordinated actions with, “have clear anti-Russian tendencies.”

“But our Japanese counterparts tell us they heed signals from us and take them into account in the course of practical steps,” Losyukov said.

He indicated he had raised the problem the other day at consultations with Japan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Mitoji Yabunaka.

“Just another time, we got the assurances that this activity on the part of Japan doesn’t have any Russian underpinning, that it’s aimed at helping those countries to develop harmoniously on the economic and political plane and that the Japanese don’t want to take part in any anti-Russian efforts,” Losyukov indicated.

“We note these assurances and will watch closely what happens in reality,” he said. “And if we notice any involvement in project with anti-Russian subcurrents, this won’t be left without consequences.”
