Russia, India, China seek to bolster energy ties

BANGALORE: Russia, India and China plan to step up their cooperation in the energy sector.

“Trilateral cooperation can be bolstered further through developing mutually beneficial relations in the energy sphere,” says a communique issued after a meeting of Russian, Indian and Chinese ministers in
Bangalore on Tuesday.

Russia, India and China “complement each other in a natural fashion in energy issues,” the document says.

Russia is a leading supplier of oil and natural gas, and India and China export mainly industrial products and services.

“Energy issues need to be addressed in light of the long-term interests of both energy consumers and countries that supply energy sources,” the communique says.

The three countries favor an intensification of international cooperation in the energy sector that would follow the principles of openness, transparency and competition on the energy market and would address the interests of all parties concerned in a balanced manner, the document says.
