The head of the presidential chancellery, Stanislaw Stasiak announced that Lech Kaczynski will invite PM Donald Tusk and defense minister Bogdan Klich for talks on the future of Poland’s mission in Afghanistan.  A similar invitation for an urgent debate on the issue was extended by Poland’s premier yesterday. 

According to minister Stasiak, the time has come to sum up the Afghan mission and draw conclusions from it. He stressed that the discussion should concern the Polish contingent there and its role in the NATO mission to that country.

Meanwhile latest public opinion polls indicate that the majority of Poles are against the presence of Polish troops in Afghanistan with 81 percent of respondents in TNS OBOP poll favoring their withdrawal. 13 percent of Poles say the soldiers should continue their mission in Afghanistan with 6 percent having no opinion on the matter.
