We are sad to announce that Jeremy Wright passed away in Ottawa on Sunday March the 8th.  

Jeremy was a lifelong friend, author, activist, film producer, with whom we have worked over the years, exchanging thoughts, views  and commitments on how to alleviate global poverty and build a better World. 

Jeremy spread his ideas and ideals with modesty and compassion. He forcefully challenged “humanitarian intervention”: He was at the forefront of the antiwar movement, ten years ago, in March 1999, when Yugoslavia was bombed by NATO warplanes, and in all major antiwar venues from the outset of the illegal bombing and invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001, always taking a firm position against the US sponsored “war on terrorism”. 

Jeremy was also at the forefront of the 911 Truth Movement.

Jeremy had a World view, a vision, an ethical perspective based on a profound understanding of the economic and social crisis affecting humanity.

He was committed to conveying “the unspoken truth” and reversing the tide of war and globalization, going against the stream, with a profound and relentless commitment to his fellow human beings. 

This commitment was conveyed with a sense of respect for diversity of opinion, religious belief, culture and ethnicity.

Jeremy’s understanding of the World we live in was extensive, in terms of its complex economic, social, environmental and cultural dimensions. 

Jeremy Wright will continue to be a source of inspiration for all those committed to the causes of World peace and social justice, as contained in his writings and video productions.

Subject: Sad News

Dear wonderful friends of my father, Jeremy Wright. 

As you know, my dad left us Sunday morning for the spirit world with sweetgrass in his hand.  It is with a mixture of shock, sadness and celebration that we organize now to mourn his passing and honour the immense contribution he made to enrich each of our lives. 

We would like to invite you to several opportunities to celebrate his passing.  I know my dad had many many friends and networks of people, many of whom I haven’t met, and I look forward to doing so. 
 
We are hosting 3 events, to be confirmed. Please check the Deaths section in the Ottawa Citizen as of tomorrow (wed). 
 
1.    A visitation will be held from 4-8pm this Thursday March 12th at Hulse, Playfair and McGarry (315 McLeod, Ottawa). This will be likely be open casket. 
2.    A memorial service will be held at St. Bartholomew’s church, 125 MacKay St, Ottawa at 2pm on Saturday March 14th with the ashes present. 
3.    Following the service, a celebration of his life will be held at his home at 181 Maple Lane, Ottawa. Please bring yourself and a good memory to share! 
 
Many people have been asking how they can help.  Since we are a bit overwhelmed, we have included some specific things we could use some immediate help with.  To help keep it simple, please let me know if you would like to take the lead on one or more of these things.   If you would like to contribute, please let me know and I will put you in touch with the person who will be coordinating the task. 
 
1.    Please help us spread the word about these events to your networks – and also to close friends as i do not have everyone’s email address or phone # and my dad’s computer crashed last month so we also lost his address book. 
2.    Advice on how to honour him in the First Nations tradition

4.    Donations of flowers, decorations, & such for the funeral home, church and/or celebration at 181 Maple. 
5.    Transportation of flowers, decoration, etc. between funeral home, church, and 181 Maple Lane
6.    Wood for the fireplace at 181 Maple Lane.  
7.    Submission of digital photos for a slideshow during the visitation and celebration.  Please submit to Fiona [email protected] by Wednesday at noon.  Printed pictures welcome at all events.  
8.    If anyone has a car that they are willing to lend for one day this week, that would be very helpful.  
9.    If anyone would like to go over to my dad’s house and clean out the fish tank that would be great.  FYI.  We are out of water purification drops.  ☺

All of your support, including the outpouring of offers, love, and friendship is sincerely appreciated.  Other ideas to remember my dad are most welcome.
