Estonia hosts NATO logistics exercise

VILNIUS – Estonia will host on March 2-5 a NATO exercise aimed at coordinating logistical support for alliance’s troops in a potential crisis situation, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry said on Monday.

The Baltic Host 2009 exercise, which is taking place at the National Military College in Tartu, involves a series of scenarios simulating the arrival and deployment of NATO troops in a member country

Military personnel from Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, the U.S., the U.K., and Poland will take part in the drills.

It is the first exercise of this type in the Baltic region, which could become a regular event in the future to improve interoperability between NATO troops, the ministry said.

The ex-Soviet republics of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania joined NATO in 2004.
