A member of Iran’s Majlis (parliament) warns of a possible agreement to base a missile-shield radar in Turkey, stressing any military action by NATO against Iran will be tantamount to its suicide.

“In regard to the vigilance of nations, any military action by NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization) will undoubtedly mean its suicide,” a member of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Fatemeh Alia said on Monday.

She added that NATO played an active role in the region, directly or indirectly, after the 1979 victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran due to its fear of arrogant powers, Majlis news agency (ICANA) reported.

However, the legislator emphasized that the NATO military expedition failed to inflict damage on the Islamic Republic, adding the organization seeks to change regional developments in its own favor by waging a psychological warfare.

World nations have come to an understanding that the global arrogance has intensified insecurity under the pretext of establishing security, she said, adding NATO efforts will lead to adverse consequences.

The lawmaker denounced silence on NATO moves and highlighted the significance of taking steps towards shedding light on its plans.
Alia pointed to Iran’s great military might and warned NATO that any threat against the Islamic Republic will pose a serious danger to its interests.

Meanwhile, deputy chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee Hossein Ebrahimi also said that strengthening ties between Iran and its neighboring states will play an “effective” role in countering threats against Tehran.

He added that Iran may likely fail to establish ties with the Persian Gulf littoral states because they are influenced by the US “but we can turn NATO threats into opportunities through restoring ties with neighbors and even European countries.”
