Georgia’s ex-President Eduard Shevardnadze has slammed the potential deployment of U.S. military bases in Georgia as inexpedient.

At a press conference in Tbilisi on Saturday, he said Georgia would gain nothing from it.

He was speaking in response to speculations in the media that Washington is willing to discuss future military deployments with Tbilisi.

There has been no immediate comment from the Georgian government.
