Elbaradei’s report confirms Tehran’s co-op with IAEA

Special Report: Iran Nuclear Crisis

    VIENNA, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) — Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohamed ElBaradei said on Thursday in his latest report on Iran nuclear program that Tehran’s cooperation with IAEA was “sufficient.”

    The nine-page report, circulated in the 35-nation Board of Governors of IAEA since Thursday, acknowledged that “Iran’s current nuclear program is diminishing.” However, the agency still could not allege the scope and nature of Iran’s nuclear program.

    The report said that Iran provided “sufficient” cooperation to the agency to clarify its open issues related to uranium enrichment activities, and Iran’s declared material and information on its development of centrifuges also accorded with the finding of IAEA,

    But the report also pointed out that until now, contrary to the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council, Iran still did not suspend its uranium enrichment related activities.

    Besides about 3000 working centrifuges, Iran had begun to test new type and modern centrifuges, which would accelerate the process of uranium enrichment, the report added.

    According to available information, IAEA still could not allege the initial scope and nature of Iran’s nuclear program, said the report.

    Elbaradei also indicated in the report that Iran’s cooperation was “reactive rather than proactive.” He said Iran’s “active cooperation and full transparency are indispensable.”

    He also urged Iran to take actions to help the agency to supervise its nuclear related activities and clarify all open issues relevant to its nuclear program.

    The IAEA’s 35-nation Board of Governors will discuss the reportat its forthcoming meetings in Vienna beginning on Nov. 22.
