Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak warned that huge anti-government protests in Lebanon risked destroying the country.
“I say to the Lebanese opposition that all these demonstrations, even if they are in the majority, are not reasonable. I fear the consequences,” he told France 3 television through a French interpreter.
“There is also the risk of outside interference in these demonstrations. That can lead to very serious confrontations and even lead to the destruction of Lebanon,” he said.
“The solution can only come through negotiations. Confrontation and demonstrations take us back to the 1970s.”
