Human rights groups say Honduras is the most dangerous country for journalists in the Western Hemisphere. The Human Rights Commission says 23 journalists have been killed there since 2007.

In the latest wave of violence the authorities say gunmen shot dead a radio reporter who had supported the ousted president José Manuel Zelaya. Gunmen shot dead at least two other pro-Zelaya journalists in the last few months.

Larry Birns, the director of the Council for Hemispheric Affairs, says Honduras is the most dangerous country in the Western Hemisphere in terms of its homicide rate, especially for American citizens.
