Cuban Health Mission Begins Rehabilitation Service in Haiti

The Cuban medical mission in Haiti expanded the assistance they are offering victims of the earthquake to include rehabilitation services, reported Prensa Latina. The first team of rehabilitation specialists began offering their services on Saturday at the Cuban Tent Hospital operating in Leoganne, some 30 kilometers west of the capital

The Cuban medical mission in Haiti expanded the assistance they are offering victims of the earthquake to include rehabilitation services, reported Prensa Latina. 

The first team of physiotherapists began offering their services on Saturday at the Cuban Tent Hospital operating in Leoganne, some 30 kilometers west of the capital. 

Specialist Luis Rafael Alfonso said that the physiotherapy facility has all the necessary infrastructure including infrared, magnetic, laser and Enraf systems, which combines ultrasound with several different therapeutic devices such as electric current.

Alfonso said that the majority of the patients attended to on the first day were patients suffering from multiple traumas, including fractured limbs.

The Cuban Tent Hospital in Leoganne began operations four days following the devastating 7.2 earthquake that shook Haiti last month. The staff includes 42 Cuban healthcare professionals including several specialists in intensive care, paediatrics, gynaecology, obstetrics, psychiatry, anaesthesia, orthopaedics and internal medicine. 

Cuban doctors attend more than 1,000 patients a day.
