Poland: Total Withdrawal from Iraq

Baghdad, Oct 4 (Prensa Latina) The Polish military contingent in Iraq announced today the end of its mission here and the withdrawal by the end of this month of the last 900 men deployed in this country.

Notification was made during an official ceremony held at the military base of Diwaniya, south of this capital, with the participation of Polish Defense Minister, Bogdan Klich and the commander of US military in Iraq, Raymond Odierno, reported TV network Al-Iraqiya.

The Polish army is displayed in Iraq since the beginning of the country´s occupation by US troops and its allies in March, 2003, and at least 22 of its soldiers lost their lives in the war.

In the last months, those troops were progressively reduced from two 2600 to 900 soldiers, according to official sources.
