Iraq, Depleted Uranium and a Song for Sanity.

In-depth Report:

‘I would like to see it sung all over the world.’ Dr Chris Busby.

Dr Chris Busby is an internationally renowned scientist and founder of the Low Level Radiation Campaign (www.llrc.org) His scientific studies and Reports on the dangers of radiation, proving it unsafe at any level, wrong foot the nuclear and arms industry on an ongoing basis. His meticulous research includes the effects on the health of the veterans of the British nuclear testing in the Pacific in the 1950’s and subseqent detriment to their children and granchildren, to excess cancers in those living in the vicinity of nuclear power plants and the health impact from depleted uranium weapons use in the Balkans, Afghanistan and Iraq and the devastating effects of the Chernobyl disaster both medically and on the environment. His work gives lie for all time to the assurances of pro-nuclear scientists and government Ministers of the safety of ‘clean’ nuclear energy, above natural sources.

Reading Busby’s careful, rawly undramatic studies, presented in accessible and understandable form, only the deluded or deranged could conclude that an industry which produces wastes which are lethal and do not begin to lose their potency for twenty four thousand years (plutonium) to a maximum of four and a half billion years (uranium) is safer than harnessable nature (wind, solar ..) and recyclable sources. Busby is also an accomplished lyricist and composer, with a wry take on nuclear madness, political shenanigans and death and infanticide for oil.

His song about the illegal Iraq invasion and depleted uranium was first performed on stage, to an audience of five thousand, at the Perdana International War Crimes Tribunal in Kuala Lumpur in May 2007. On the first anniversary, Busby is making it available to anyone who wishes to use it. ‘Country Boy’, in country music : ‘a wry cowboy waltz’, can be downloaded from the llrc website or from www.myspace.com/chrisbusby

Country Boy:

I went to a country that’s baked in the sun

I took them some freedom. I carried a gun

I handed out candy for everyone

I can’t undestand why they hate me.

I was told it was terrorist plans we would foil

By setting up camps on this foreigner’s soil

I’m sure it had nothing to do with the oil

The billions of gallons beneath it.

Chorus:

So it’s just one more push

For George W. Bush

We’ll cheer as cruise missiles

Take off with a whoosh

With fins of titanium

Nose cones of uranium

We’ll make the world safe and secure.

Democrocy’s fine if you have lots of food

But the people out here seem to be in a mood

So we’ll give them Big Macs in exchange for their crude

And everyone soon will be smiling.

We spend all these dollars on huge foreign aid

But my buddy was killed with a rocket grenade

And depleted uranium seems to have made

Most of the vets sick with cancer.

Chorus:

Uranium is dangerous if it gets in the air

Inhaled by children, but we just don’t care

If they all get leukaemia and lose all their hair

We’re engaged in a war against terror.

We’re proud of our country, we all love or moms

The US exported both nukes and dot.coms

Hiroshima weapons, uranium bombs

Justice and peace and real freedom.

Chorus:

I don’t think we’ll ever get out of this mess

The government controls both the science and press

The public watch soaps to escape from the stress

Whilst the generals make NUCLEAR weapons.
