Russia negotiates a naval base in Libya

Russia continues its attempt to establish a naval base in the Mediterranean.

After the recent negotiations with the Assad of Syria to renovate its Tartus base, Putin and Medvedev are currently negotiating a naval base in Libya. Libya agreed this year to open up its doors to the Anglo-American establishment and to allow them to explore, exploit, and plunder its resources. As a result they would be taken off the terrorists list and reincorporated back into the global community and the new order.

The Kommersant, a Russian business daily, reported last Friday that Libya is willing to host a Russian naval base as a means of security against any possible U.S. attack. The newspaper also cited that the Libyan leader was planning to raise the naval base issue during talks with the Russian leadership during his visit  on October 31st to November 2nd.

Qaddafi believes that a Russian military presence in his country would prevent possible attacks by the United States, which despite numerous Libyan attempts to amend bilateral relations, is not in a hurry to embrace him.[1].

As a response to Qaddafi’s comments, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said at his meeting with the Libyan Revolution leader on Saturday November 1, 2008 that Russia and Libya are prepared to discuss major joint projects and initiatives which will be a good stimulus for the development of relations in all areas, primarily trade, economic, scientific and technological fields[2]. Interestingly, on October 30, 2008 a meeting between Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and his Chinese counterpart, Wen Jiabao, created a financial sensation. Wen stated that the two nations could withstand the current global financial crisis if they joined forces. Putin urged him to go farther and stop using U.S. dollars in Russian-Chinese settlements[3].

Is Russia attempting to change the current world order, by creating new alliances and by dumping the dollar as a key strategy to erode and weaken the Anglo-American empire?

Is the Russian leadership in cahoots with the current global order, or are they trying to create their own?

Will the Russians defend their new allies in these little countries if attacked by the Anglo-American-Israeli Axis, or will they simply watch them get annihilated as in the case of Iraq, then, split the leftovers of the loot like a vulture in the jungle?
