America Opposes Adoption of United Nations Anti-Nazi Resolution

Ukraine Opposes the Resolution. 'Syria, Israel, China, DPRK and 131 UN Member States Vote in Favor of Anti-Nazi Resolution and the Falsification of History

International Military Tribunal Nuremberg Judgment of 1 October 1946:  “The ‘Common Plan or Conspiracy’ charged in the indictment covers twenty-five years from the formation of the Nazi Party in 1919 to the end of the war in 1945.  The Party is spoken of as ‘the instrument of cohesion among the defendants’ for carrying out the purposes of the conspiracy…by the use, if necessary, of armed force, of aggressive war…the Prosecution says, in effect that any significant participation in the affairs of the Nazi party of government is evidence of a conspiracy that is in itself criminal.’”

These decisions followed the most devastating war in human history, World War II, a global scourge of state terror unleashed by Nazism, and never before or since equaled in horror.  One could reasonably expect, therefore, that the re-emergence of nazi ideology and organization in numerous countries throughout Europe and elsewhere, including the USA, would evoke terror and fierce resistance wherever they are manifested.  The Nuremberg Charter and Principles are absolutely explicit in condemning Nazism as an “unequivocal evil.”

It is therefore cause for alarm that Resolution L.45/Rev 1 adopted by the United Nations Third Committee on 17 November, 2016, “Combating Glorification of Nazism, Neo-Nazism and other Practices that contribute to Fueling Contemporary Forms of Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance” was opposed by the United States and Ukraine.

And it is therefore of enormous significance that Israel departed from its almost consistent record of aligning itself with the US, and in this rare exception, Israel voted together with Syria, and 130 other countries in opposition to the US and Ukranian position.

Year after year after year for the last decade, the voting on this resolution has been consistent.  Israel has not forgotten the Holocaust and the genocidal extermination of 6 million Jews by Nazism 80 years ago.  Nor have the Russians, who introduced this resolution each year, forgotten the nazi intent to exterminate the entire Slavic peoples, with the exception of those Slavs they intended to use as slaves of the Third Reich.  At least thirty million Russians, military and civilian, were slaughtered by the genocidal nazi aggression.

The Resolution states, point 7:

“Expresses concern about recurring attempts to desecrate or demolish monuments erected in remembrance of those who fought against Nazism during the Second World War, as well as to unlawfully exhume or remove the remains of such persons, and in this regard urges States to fully comply with their relevant obligations, inter alia, under article 34 of Additional Protocol 1 to the Geneva Conventions of 1949.”

Point 12 states:

“ Welcomes the call of the Special Rapporteur for the active preservation of those Holocaust sites that served as Nazi death camps, concentration and forced labour camps and prisons, as well as his encouragement of States to take measures, including legislative, law enforcement and educational measures, to put an end to all forms of Holocaust denial.

It is alarming that Ukraine, now essentially a puppet of the USA voted against this resolution.  This is not surprising, however, recalling that so recently the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, acting on behalf of her neo-liberal colleagues, helped mastermind the overthrow of Ukraine’s democratically elected President, and supported installation of a nazi infested regime in Ukraine, while revealing her attitude toward any Europeans who expressed qualms, in her declaration:  “Fuck the EU.”  A preposterous justification for Ukraine’s “no” vote was given by their delegation, which cited the Stalin-Hitler pact as one of the reasons for its opposition.  The current Ukrainian delegate has obviously ignored the facts that, before the Stalin-Hitler non-aggression pact was signed, not only did Stalin desperately attempt  to alert Europe to the menace of Nazism, a warning entirely ignored by everyone until Hitler began his aggression, but, in fact, the pact could not be blamed upon Russia because Stalin was not Russian, he was Georgian, a fact of which the Ukrainian delegation is obviously ignorant.

The US has evidently forgotten and desecrated the memory of the thousands of heroic American soldiers murdered – or tortured to death by the Nazis in World War II.  If the US is now defending, under any pretense, evidence of the current widespread resurgence of Nazism, the lives of US soldiers were squandered for nothing in World War II. (The munitions manufacturers made a fortune during the war, however).

For almost a decade, the Russian Federation has, yearly, introduced this resolution.  For almost a decade, this resolution has been adopted, with the support of a majority of the United Nations member states, including Syria and Israel, China and the DPRK.  For almost a decade the US has opposed this resolution, giving various excuses, none of which are legitimate justification for such a damning vote.

The representative of Belarus condemned attempts to rewrite the history of Nazism and WWII, and repeated that every third citizen of Belarus was slaughtered by the Nazis during WWII. The opposition to this resolution by both the US and Ukraine is particularly egregious, as both countries are fully aware of the details of nazi atrocities recounted in testimony given at the Nuremberg Tribunal.

At Yanovska Concentration camp in Lvov, witnesses to nazi barbarities testified:  “In this camp war prisoners were exterminated without any pretext, often for a bet.  Wemke, a Gestapo Kommisar, boasted to other camp executioners that he would cut a boy in two parts with one blow of a hatchet.  They did not believe him, so he caught a ten-year old boy in the street, forced him to his knees, made him put his palms together and hide his face in them, made a trial stroke, adjusted the boy’s head and with a single blow of the hatchet slashed the boy in two.  The Hitlerites congratulated Wemke warmly and shook him by the hand..”  “Children were used by the Nazis as living targets.  Ida Vasseau, and elderly French woman who witnessed instances of this unspeakable barbarism in Lvov, told the Nuremberg authorities ‘ The little children were martyrs.  They were given away to the Hitler-Jugend which used them as live targets for shooting practice.’”

The representative of Slovakia, speaking on behalf of the European Union, stated that:  “one-sided interpretations of history should be avoided,” which implies that, perhaps it would have been preferable if the Nazis had won WWII.  This alternative “interpretation of history” is terrifying, as Europe, which was the nazis’ slaughterhouse, is evidently attempting to rewrite history to justify the Holocaust, or a repetition of the Holoocaust.

The Ukranian vote is perhaps the most shameful and terrifying of all, as it desecrates the memory of the victims of Babi Yar, and it desecrates the memory of the courageous 300,000 Ukranians who fought the nazi invasion, and were butchered at Kharkov, one of the Soviet Union’s “Hero Cities,” a battle that began on May 12, 1942.  Although this battle ended in defeat for these Soviet Ukranian heros, the fierce Ukranian resistance obstructed the nazi onslaught, delaying and weakening the invading nazi army, and contributing, thereby, to the great Soviet victory at Stalingrad, the turning point in World War II.  In the words of Marshal Georgi Zhukov:  “Our victory at Stalingrad marked a turning point in the war in favor of the Soviet Union and the beginning of the expulsion of enemy forces from our territory.  It was a long awaited and glorious victory not only for our forces, who had taken direct part in the defeat of the enemy, but for the entire Soviet people, who had labored day and night to provide the front with everything it needed.  The loyal sons and daughters of Russia, Ukraine, Byelorussia, Kazakhstan, the Baltics, the Caucasus and Central Asia won immortal glory by their steadfastness and mass heroism.”

As they say, those who do not learn from history are condemned to repeat it.  Those in the US and Europe who supported the Nazis hoped that Hitler would win the war and destroy the Soviet Union.  The opposite occurred. There are not two sides to this story, and there are no nuances. It is therefore, perhaps advisable to remind the US, the Ukraine and the European Union, who should never have forgotten, of the systematic, institutionalized methods of torture regularly inflicted by the Nazis, whose ideology the opponents of Resolution L.45/Rev.1  are now defending.

In their concentration camps,

“To relieve the monotony of the daily mass executions, the nazi guards amused themselves by inflicting horrible tortures and ‘jokes’ upon the prisoners…A former prisoner named Atrokov told the Nuremberg Tribunal:  ‘They took away a baby from its mother’s breast and killed it before her eyes by smashing it against the barracks wall.’  ‘I, myself,’ said Edward Baran, another witness, ‘saw how  babies were taken from their mothers and killed befoe their eyes;  they would take a baby by one foot and step on the other, and so tear the baby apart.’”  “Before a prisoner guilty of some misdemeanor was killed he would be led over to a large, sparkling white wringer used by the camp laundry and made to place his fingers between the heavy rubber rollers.  Then an SS man – or perhaps another prisoner forced into their service – would turn the handle.  The victim’s arms would be literally mangled up to the shoulder.  The agonized screams of the tortured victim would afford great entertainment to his tormenters.”

These were institutionalized methods of torture inflicted by the Nazis on all victims of their conquest, whether Ukranian, Russian, French, Italian, or American.   Resolution L45/Rev.1 declares, unequivocally:  “ Never forget. “

In 1919 the Nazi party was negligible, regarded as irrelevant, composed of fringe extremists.  By the early 1930’s, it was still small, and in desperate need of money to survive.  Suddenly, the party received a large influx of money, some surmise, invested by Henry Ford, a virulent anti-Semite, who published and disseminated, at his own expense, the fraudulent “Protocols of the Elders of Zion,” in the USA and elsewhere.

Hitler declared that Henry Ford was his own inspiration.   Will the current neo-nazi movements follow the same trajectory?  It took 25 years, from 1919 to 1945 for the Nazi horror to obliterate most of civilization throughout Europe and elsewhere.  Perhaps, 25 years from Russia’s introduction of this resolution at the United Nations in 2005, the nazi horror will be reborn.  And those who opposed this resolution will have helped the rebirth of this monster.
