About this week’s guests:

Brian Concannon is a distinguished human rights lawyer and Director of the Institute for Justice and Democracy in Haiti. It “works with grassroots groups to develop an effective human rights advocacy program with global outreach.”

It’s also active with organizations in the US and with Haitian Diaspora activists throughout the world in promoting human rights in Haiti for a people long denied them.

Discussion will focus on conditions in Haiti today, a mid-term evaluation of President Rene Preval’s administration, and prospective Haiti policy under the Obama administration and Congress.

Marjorie Cohn is a distinguished law professor at Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego and is currently president of the National Lawyers Guild. She’s also been a criminal defense attorney at the trial and appellate levels, is an author, and has written numerous articles for professional journals and noted web sites.

Her latest book just out is titled: “Rules of Disengagement: The Politics and Honor of Military Dissent.”

Cohn’s record of achievements, distinctions and awards is long and impressive for her teaching, writing, legal work, and activism for peace, social and economic justice.

With a new administration in prospect, these issues will be discussed on the program.

Elaine Whitfield Sharp is one of the lawyers representing political prisoner Aafia Siddiqui. She was abducted, secretly detained, tortured and reportedly raped by US Bagram, Afghanistan prison personnel for over four years. Her story is painful, horrific and ongoing.
