بحسب كلام الجينيرال ولسي كلارك كانت البنتاجون تخطط للهجوم على لبنان في عام ٢٠٠١
يقول الجينيرال كلارك في كتابه:

عندما عدت للبنتاجون في عام ٢٠٠١ , كان لاحد المسؤولين العسكريين الوقت للحديث معي. قال ” نعم نحن ما زلنا على الطريق للتصدي للعراق لكن هناك المزيد. هذا يناقش ضمن خطة تسنمر لمدة ٥ سنوات وهناك ٧ دول مستهدفة في هذه الحملة : سوريا, لبنان, ليبيا, الصومال, والسودان.”

يقول كلارك:

كان المسؤول يتحدث بسخط وانا غيرت مسار الحديث لأنني لم ارغب في الاستماع الى المزيد ولم ارغب في ان تتحقق هذه الخطة..غادرت البنتاجون في ذلك اليوم وانا في غاية القلق

طبعا هذا الكلام يتفق مع خطة المحافظين الجدد الرئيسية : اعادة بناء دفاعات الولايات المتحدة

وتوماس دونللي وهو صاحب هذه الخطة هو مسؤول بارز في شركة لوكهيد مارتن وهي شركة تستفيد بشكل كبير من تلك الحروب.

لذلك ليس من المفاجئ ان يتحدث الجمهوريون عن سحب القوات من العراق, لأننا سنحتاج تلك القوات في لبنان او ربما السودان وسوريا.
